Levittown Memories at 67 Years

100 Years of Levitt

These pictures show over 100 years of Levitt and Sons' history. A special display was created, it's dedicated to John S. Levitt. He was the son of Alfred S. Levitt, the architect of many Levittown homes and communities. John S. Levitt passed away recently. Caring thoughts and prayers go out to the Levitt Family. R.I.P.

Levitt from the Sky Above

Levitt is clearly seen in the center of the map. This was Alfred’s way to do one better than his friend and fellow architect, Frank Lloyd Wright.

Sky's the Limit

Alfred S. Levitt, architect. Levitt & Sons, Inc., builder and developer.

Read carefully page 123, paragraph 2. I have the renderings that are mentioned, they're part of my collection. I hope this would please John S. Levitt, who is recently deceased. This article was all about his father Alfred.

Party Line

This picture is named “Party Line”. The red phone was found at the LPRA site. The other phones were donated by Levittown residents.

William Levitt Station

This is the original U.S. Post Office named the William Levitt Station. In the right-hand upper corner is a picture of myself with Mrs. Simone Levitt, William's wife. She signed the glass in 2008, shown in the upper left-hand corner. Mrs. Levitt and her family visited Dave Marable and his family on that day in September.

Raymond Fletcher Proffitt

Mr. Riverkeeper, Raymond Fletcher Proffitt, gave me his copy of “Message to Garcia”. His book came from William Levitt. William asked that Raymond watch over his ‘Garden Community’. Mr. Proffitt kept watch over Levittown for any pollution, aside from also being the Levitt pilot. Raymond Proffitt requested that I continue the history of Levittown, even if it was difficult to accomplish.

Capital for a Day

Hal Lefcourt received a letter and the Pennsylvania flag from the administrative office in Pennsylvania. The flag was flown over the Levittown Administration Building, known as the LPRA, for the Capital for a Day to honor Levittown. This poster was given to Hal by the Pennsylvania Governor Robert P. Casey.

Levittown Eagle

The outline of the Levittown Eagle. As I sat with Raymond F. Proffitt in his Florida home, we enlarged a Levittown map and worked together to solve the mystery of the Eagle.

Levittown shapes the American Eagle. This is a sketch I made from an interview with Ray Proffitt, Levitt family pilot, living in Florida. Raymond told me the story of Alfred Levitt's wish to have Levittown, Pennsylvania be the composite of all their communities. The American dream.

Town Theatre Projector

This is the original 35mm projector in the Town Theatre, Levittown Shopping Center in 1952. The WBCB radio station donated this, among other things, to Levittown Internationally Known Communities Inc.

Hal Lefcourt

Mr. Levittown, Hal Lefcourt, a well-known early resident of Levittown. It was his hope to keep the LPRA building for a Levittown museum. A special thanks to Mrs. Lefcourt and daughter for allowing me to acquire some of his Levittown information.

Country Clubber Bar

Country Clubber Bar in 1952. This was the display in the model home. It was donated by the Hale family. The letter shows that Simone Levitt is a Lifetime Member of Levittown Internationally Known Communities Inc.
